How to Jazz Up Your Journals with Items from the Shop

Hello CCD friends,

Today I want to share how I used items from the January release in a journal. This year I decided to document the books I read inside of my 2022 story album. I like to keep my reading adventures all in one place and so I thought it might be a good time to experiment with 7.25x9 monthly planner insert, “Ledger,” from Heidi Swapp. It has the perfect number of pages for my design idea.

My first step in starting the journal was to punch holes and ensure that it fits nicely in my album.

Next, I ripped pieces of roll-off papers from a Gelli printing class, arranged them and lightly glued the pieces together. I created the fussy cut leaf sprays using a stamp from my stash and then a few drops of liquid glue to keep them in place. I adhered the “Books of 2022” acrylic and a sticker from my stash in place before adding a bit of hand stitching for texture and interest. The final step was to glue the entire piece to the front cover of the insert.

Then it was time to start documenting what I’ve been reading. I played with my photos, journaling and embellishments until they fit in a way that made sense to me. The result is a two-page spread documenting my January books as well as the February books I have already finished. The photos on the February side of my layout are pockets for holding tags about the books I completed as well as any additional books I read this month. The February page is still a work in progress.

I am using the thin clear acrylic months from the shop as my page titles. They are perfect for journals, memory planners and any other medium where you want to minimize bulk.

One of the things I like about this journal is the size and format for documenting my reading adventures. It’s not too small or thick and it doesn’t feel overwhelming. I am looking forward to experimenting in it with memory planning ideas I’ve admired out there in the paper crafting community.

We hope you are enjoying the January release. Please tag @colorcastdesigns or use the hashtag #CCD2022 on Instagram or Facebook to show us what you are creating with your kits and bits of goodness from the shop!

Happy crafting,

~Robin
