Using Circles to Document a Christmas Ornament Story

Hello friends,

Creative team member Shu-Wen is our featured designer today. Shu-Wen created this December Daily page using a repeated shape as the foundation for her design.

“I love the number wood veneers that came in the November subscription kit, and I coincidentally had 5 new handmade ornaments that I added to our Christmas tree this year, so the wood veneer numbers were perfect to document this story!”

“To go with the circle shapes of the numbered wood veneer pieces (and to go along with the fact that ornaments are traditionally circle shaped), I cropped my ornament photos into circle shapes, framed them with some chipboard circle frames, and added my journaling onto a vellum overlay on circle text boxes. I added 2 wood veneer hearts along the bottom of the vellum overlay, popped up on top of the vellum with some foam adhesive, with the edges of the hearts overlapping the sides of the vellum to serve as little tabs to make it easier to lift up the vellum overlay.”

“Then, I added a third heart wood veneer piece in the middle of my circle shaped photos beneath the vellum overlay with a word phrase sticker layered over top of it.”

“Finally, I finished my layout with the "Make It Merry" acrylic piece designed by Ashley Horton as my title piece, accompanied with a red acrylic heart to bring a pop of color into my page.”

Here is a quick video walkthrough of Shu-Wen’s design.
