Crafting with Wood Veneer: A Heartfelt Notebook Layout
Hello friends,
On the blog today I am sharing a double-page notebook layout featuring one of our wood veneers from an add-on set in the shop. I’ve found that CCD wood veneers are my go-to choice for enhancing my 2024 story album layouts. The reason is that our wood veneers fit seamlessly onto the smaller notebook pages. They add dimension and interest while the weight of the veneer is just right for the more delicate 80-90 gsm notebook paper.
For this project, I documented a heartwarming moment: our foster puppy Sasha’s very first grooming session, right before an adoption event. The “Sweet on You” wood veneer title perfectly captures the Valentine’s theme, complemented by the adorable red hearts on Sasha’s kerchief. I opted for a monochromatic approach because I wanted my photo and the title to shine.
Last year I fell into the die cutting abyss thanks to stitching dies and jumped at the chance to use this cross-stitch heart die for my project. I thought it was the perfect size to hold my story title and it was also fun to cross-stitch!
The roses are stamped with Tim Holtz distress oxide ink in Saltwater Taffy, and fussy cut. I popped up different areas of each flower with some thin foam pieces.
To tie it all together, I sprinkled word phrase stamps and little heart clusters, all in the same Saltwater Taffy oxide ink. The lighter oxide ink color creates a serene backdrop, allowing Sasha’s adorable face and the wood veneer title to stand out.

P.S. The grooming was the magic touch! Sasha was adopted by a wonderful family, and they send me updates!
