“Out & About” with CT Member Robin

Greetings friends!

I’m back with another project featuring a shop add-on from the July shop release. For this layout I chose the acrylic phrase, “Out and About” because it works so well with the background paper I chose. Let’s jump into the details.

My 12x12 background paper is from the VB Discover and Create paper collection and once again, I added hand stitching for texture. It is so satisfying to spend evenings stitching on paper and the final product allows me to use minimal embellishments. This is important to me because I am in a huge creative rut and it’s been relentless!

I am highlighting a recent photo of my son and his girlfriend from a camping trip near the Oregon coast. I loved the photo in color but wanted to use a black and white version to keep more of the monochromatic feel of my project.

I auditioned lots of different pieces from the collection, and I do mean lots, ultimately choosing the leaf branches because they were not competing with the background paper and they complimented the papers I chose to back the photo. Some of the leaves are popped up with foam circles. To add a bit more emphasis around the photo I added sequins with French knots. The French knots were made with DMC 839 for the small brownish copper sequins and DMC 729 for the larger light gold toned sequins.

I added a tab for hidden journaling and covered the phrase that was on the tab with a stamp that worked better with my title. Next, I adhered soft orange acrylic phrase which draws the eye right to the photo, the star of my layout. I used thin strips of foam tape on the ampersand and the word “about” to match the height of my popped-up photo. I must admit, I have been drawn to all the orange pieces Jessica has been creating the past couple of months. Unfortunately, I just checked the shop, and it appears this acrylic is no longer available.

Thanks for visiting the blog today and for taking a closer look at my project.
