A Textured December Title Page
Hello!
It’s my turn to share a design today and I want to feature the cover page for my December album. I took a mini book class with Paige Taylor Evans, and learned how to make simple paper beads and fell in love with the process. I wanted my title page to be completely handmade and I think I achieved that objective. The design is just a picture I had rolling around in my brain after Paige’s class.
I used scraps of Christmas cards from a past Vicki Boutin collection and created the sprigs with a die and green cardstock. I purposefully chose the shop add-on “Hello December” green acrylic as my page title because I always lean toward red and wanted to stretch myself a bit. It is the perfect color for the beaded tree I created.
To create my tree, I rolled the beads, then I cut and added the translucent ribbon to my paper, which I stitched down. I started each strand by knotting one end of my embroidery floss and pulling it through a hole poked in my paper at the beginning of the row. Next, I loaded up the strand with a mix of my paper beads and seed beads I found at Joann’s. I pulled the embroidery thread at the end of the strand through another hole poked on the right side of the row and knotted it off.
I wanted my acrylic title to stand out and tried lots of variations including backing it with the cards I used to create the beads before I chose this placement. Working with and photographing a layout with this level of green is new to me but it feels and look wonderful in my album and wow do I love all the texture! I definitely need a lot of practice rolling a variety of paper weights so that my beads are more uniform but I’m happy with the results for this project.
